I wanted to dedicate a blog post to a training I finished recently - Jo Kelly's 33 Day Reset Journey (click here for more info).
One of the reasons I was waffling on whether or not to partake in this training, I couldn't find many online resources or actors talking about their experience or what they took away from it. At first, I found this suspect. Was she hiding something? Was this some scam? I didn't know, because no one was there offering a blog post or description of their experience!
I watched one of Jo's free Facebook webinars last year and became intrigued by her training, but at the time it was out of my price range. Then, a few months back, I participated in her week of live webinars that included prizes at the end. I had a week of learning about Jo's training, some acting tips, and I even won a one-on-one hour with Jo to talk about whatever I wanted! So, we talked about my struggles in the world of acting and how blocked I've felt, especially since Covid-19 took the world by storm. I knew I needed to be "reset," but I wasn't sure if I was ready to take the plunge. I was scared. And this was one of my problems with my acting. I felt too afraid to take risks. Too afraid to look like an idiot. After my one-on-one with Jo, I decided to sleep on my decision to do the Reset Journey, or not. But I woke up the next morning and his "purchase" on her site, and a few weeks later I started my journey...
You guys, I'm not joking when I say that this changed my perspective on acting. I showed up every single day, even when I didn't want to, and did (most of!) the exercises that were assigned. There was the infamous "2 dollar" exercise that was really tough to get done every day, but I tried! After my routine and self-discipline became nearly non-existent since the lockdowns started, this online training helped get me back into a nice groove. I had to show up every day and do homework - and I was loving it.
Now, something to keep in mind here is that the training you follow is all pre-recorded. It was a session of the reset journey with several actors from around the world that Jo has worked with in the past. This is practical as you can do the training from anywhere around the world and at whatever time you find available during the day (or night) to work on it. I liked being able to watch the actors go through this training, and I felt that I was right in on the Zoom call with them.
There were also a few of the exercises that really unraveled me emotionally. I tend to be very emotionally blocked, stemming from decades of keeping my emotions bottled up, terrified to show people my vulnerable side for fear of judgement or ridicule. A few of the classes left me sobbing, wanting to get everything out and leave it on the table, and it felt great.
After completing the training, I felt more ready to say "yes" to opportunities that I may have shied away from in the past. Like I said before, I felt so blocked. So afraid to try new things. But since completing the Reset Journey, I have joined a new acting class, tried out for an improv troupe (and was made an official member), joined an amateur filmmaking club, and have walked into auditions feeling like a star. I don't care if I don't get the part: it is such a rush to just be in the room, able to make some magic.
This training has helped me immensely on my acting journey and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something flexible that you can do at your own pace and wanting to unlock your freedom.
Now, I am not completely "reset." I may never be completely reset. This is a journey that truly never ends, but I have more tools in my toolbox and feel more prepared than ever to work my audition rooms and snatch up any and all opportunities that come my way.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment or us my contact page on my blog to get in touch with me!
one question: have your bookings shot up 3 times more, as she mentions? Have you had any feedback from casting directors saying they noticed anything different? Did you start booking more jobs, and when you did, was there also any difference to how you felt on set. It's hard to even find any bio on Jo. She's not in IMDB?!
